Finding space to explore creativity feels like trying to catch lightning in a bottle while juggling. But carving out that space? That's the hard part.
The challenge isn't just time. It's mental bandwidth. I can block off an evening to work on Rescue or write something new, but if my brain is still cycling through work emails or tomorrow's meetings, I'm not really present. Creativity requires a specific kind of headspace that doesn't come automatically just because the calendar says "creative time now."
I've learned that the best creative moments happen when I give myself permission to explore without expectations. Not every session needs to produce something polished or useful. Sometimes it's just about playing with an idea, scribbling notes that might go nowhere. The exploration itself is the point.
What helps is protecting that space fiercely. Turning off notifications. Telling people I'm unavailable. Treating creative time like it's as important as any meeting, because it is.
Some weeks, I manage it well. Other weeks, it slips away entirely. But when I do find it, when I can sink into creating something without the weight of productivity hanging over me, everything else feels more manageable.
