Juggling the Work
Have you ever had weeks where the workload from the very start is overwhelming and chaotic, with no clear pattern? Whatever you attribute the chaos to, sometimes you need to take time to rest, unplug, and disconnect.
My go-to way to relax after days like these is tabletop gaming. Working from home means my eyes are nearly always hitting a screen, so getting an analog game to the table helps distract my mind from the hamster wheel of work and doesn't require screens.
Right now, I’m playing through a campaign of Oathsworn: Into the Deepwoods, a massive multi-chapter campaign with a DnD style choose your own adventure paired with a hex-based boss battler. Gloomhaven was one of my entry points into the tabletop hobby and Oathsworn has so many elements that remind of the best parts of Gloomhaven while leaving the set-up time and upkeep behind.

Oathsworn: Into the Deepwood
If you’re unfamiliar with these kinds of games, it’s like a table version of Skyrim mixed with Final Fantasy Tactics and just a pinch of Dark Souls.
🌫️ Encounter — The Whispering Chasm
The tunnel narrows until you’re forced to slide sideways between jagged stone walls. Eventually it opens into a vast cavern where a deep chasm splits the floor in two. A warm draft rises from below, carrying faint whispers that sound almost like words. Strange symbols are carved into the stone around the edges — warnings, invitations, or both.
What will you do?
Lean over the edge and listen closely — Gain 1 XP
Toss a stone into the chasm to test the depth — Gain 2 XP
Attempt to decipher the carved symbols — Gain 3 XP
Try to climb partway down to investigate — Lose 2 HP
Meditate near the chasm’s edge to attune to the whispers — Gain 1 AP
Shout into the depths to see if something answers — Lose 1 AP
